CinnaBun

"CinnaBun"  (pastel, 12 inch circle)  $575

Here's another circle slated for my show in Rockport, TX which opens May 14. It's also another reused title (although I capitalized the "B" this time, just for a change...) Here's the first Cinnabun, from last summer:

CinnaBun is also another view of Cadbury, my quick, loose, colorful demo from January:

Ebony

"Ebony"  (pastel, 12 inch circle)  $575

This was the youngest Angus calf I could find among my photo references. One more for the circle wall of my show Beauty of the Beast at the Rockport Center for the Arts, Rockport TX. The reception is Saturday May 16.

I used three primer colors on this one: The gold is Quiacridone Nickel Azo Gold fluid acrylic color mixed into Golden (brand) Fine Pumice Gel. The terra cotta and the black are Art Spectrum (brand) Pastel Primer.

Curry

"Curry"  (pastel, 12 inch circle)  $575

Pretty soon I'll be running out of 'orangey' kind of names. I thought this little heifer looked a little spicy, but I've already used Cinnamon, Ginger, Chili, Salsa, Paprika, Chipotle, Queso and Cayenne! (Whew! What a dish!)

Curry will be on the west wall of the Garden Gallery with the other circles in my show, at the Rockport Center for the Arts, May 14 - June 13. The rest of the Center will be showing the work of the muli-talented Billy Keen. A Gallery Talk and reception for both shows will be on Saturday May 16, 4:30 - 7:00pm. Hope you can make it by if you're in the area!

"Vincent"  (pastel, 12 inch circle)  $575

I thought this goat so beautiful that I didn't even notice the missing ear until halfway through the painting.

BonBon

"BonBon" (pastel, 12 inch circle) $575

I've been painting like crazy to fill out my tentative layout for the Rockport Art Center's Garden Gallery room, where my show will be next month. On the right hand wall, 16 ft in length, will be the circles. My 30" circle, "Old Nickelhead", in the middle, flanked by two 20" circles (yet to be painted) and eight 12" circles in between everything.

The circle profiles have been bouncing around in my brain for a couple years now, and I've done a small handful before this. I've sold three or four over the past year. But this is the first opportunity I've had to create so many to be all shown at once. I'm excited!

King's Guard is the BOS!

 "King's Guard" (pastel, 8x6 inches) $1150

I was floored last evening at the reception for this year's Austin Pastel Society Juried Member Exhibition when I saw the giant purple ribbon next to my very own artwork! (This makes two years in a row for Best of Show, but I'm trying not to count for fear that people will begin to find me completely impossible to put up with!) Honestly, I'm just thrilled and riding the high of my good fortune, and thankful to Mike Beeman, who judged the show, for his choices. Literally, ALL the works in the show could have had top awards; the talent in this group of artists has been raising the bar higher and higher in the last decade. It's a great show, and still up in the Corridor of Art below the Chase Bank Bldg., 700 Lavaca, Austin TX., through May 3rd.
Here's my happy face with the King's Guard and big ribbon!
