"Mr. Frost" (pastel, 7x5 inches) $265 framed
This frosty white goat, which I remember as one of my demos in Ann Arbor last month, somehow slipped through the cracks on my return, so I'm happy to post him now, while I've been caught up with bunches of other little things and not had much time to paint.
I'm preparing now to do caricatures at the WestFest in the little town of West, TX, this weekend, and immediately upon returning home monday, I will be unloading that festival stuff, and reloading for my two workshops up north in OH and WV in September, and hitting the road again!
On impulse today, I tried out my phone's panorama setting, and took this shot of my studio from the doorway (the messy side!) One of these years I'll clean it all up again. As soon as I fill all those frames with paintings! Ha.
Here's a shot of Mr Frost in his frame:

I'm having fun with these tiny sunsets and using them to fill the ancient (10 year) discontinued gold frames from Hobby Lobby that I found in my garage over the summer!

And the last of Thursday's triple-demo from my workshop in Kerrville.
Speaking of workshops, there are still spaces available in my "Pastel in Miniature" workshop in Wimberly TX this November. It's an amazing All-Inclusive Art Retreat Experience hosted at the Creek Haven Inn, a secluded paradise on the banks of Cypress Creek!
See my workshop page for more info and a registration link.
Meanwhile, here are some progress shots of Remy:

Moonshine
"Moonshine" (pastel, 6x6 inches) click here to bid or buy
This little cutie was the first of my triple-demo at the Kerrville TX workshop this week. See progress shots below:
For the morning demo, I underpainted three little animals at the same time, in my assembly-line process. Each underpainting gets two additional layers of the gold colored pastel primer (this is Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold fluid acrylic color mixed into Golden (brand) Fine Pumice Gel at about a 1/4 (color/gel) ratio.) The gel is clear, so the color mixture is semi-transparent, and gets darker on each application.
The final layer of the underpainting is the Art Spectrum (brand) Pastel Primer in the terra cotta color. I lay it into the darkest areas, then scrub and dry-brush it into the medium values of the gold to continue the value scale and add more depth to the monochromatic underpaintings.
When in my studio, I do these underpaintings in batches of 6-8 or more at a time. Working each layer on each little of the paintings before moving on to the next layer on each painting.
I like to do a demo like this with three paintings, to give students a better idea of my studio process.
Here's little Moonshine's complete underpainting.
In the afternoon, I demoed the pastel part of all three paintings, one after the other, with no talking, and my Pandora station playing to get me in the groove.
I'll post the other two little paintings in the next couple days.
Thanks for watching! Please share!

Edwina
"Edwina" (pastel, 10x10 inches) click here to bid
Edwina is my first demo from my Kerrville workshop this week. 10x10 is just a little bit large for my usual opening demo and I didn't quite get all the way done, so I finished her today at lunchtime. I also did my triple demos today (primed in the morning and pastelled in the afternoon) so I'll have new little ones to post in the next few days!
Here are some progress shots:
