Sol

"Sol" (pastel, 12x12 inches) sold

I had a couple of clients who wanted "Soleil" pretty much at the same time, so I sold that one to the first client and painted this one (flipped the reference) for the new client. It's kinda nice when my work is in demand!

Goal Achieved! 30-in-30 for November!

"Rita Kirkman Daily Paintings - November 2017"  18x24 poster available for $20 + shipping. Click to buy

This has been my fourth November in a row to complete a 30-Paintings-in-30-Days challenge. It's always a great boost to my creative drive, and my business! (Not to mention I become just a little bit of a better painter with all that constant practice!) I'm trying to figure out which other month out of the year I can add to this tradition... Just think, if I add a month each year, in just over a decade I can be a true "Daily" Painter! ;)

For now, I'm back to the regular grind of portrait orders, paperwork, and laundry...

Rhyme - day 30

"Rhyme" (pastel, 7x5 inches) sold

Day 30 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November! Yay!

(If you're seeing this on my blog, you might notice that this is published on Nov 29, and indeed, every post this month has been a day ahead of itself... but it's ok. I started with Oct 31 and planned them all to coincide with their release dates to blog subscribers and to social media, which has been the next day. ;)

Rhyme is a close relative of Melody, Harmony, Serenade, Sonatina and Sonata, who live in our neighborhood.

I hope to make a little picmonkey poster for my 30-in-30 accomplishment, as is my tradition, which I will post tomorrow!

Meanwhile, here are some progress shots of Rhyme:

Day 28 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November.

I love it when I find a painting almost done on top of some boxes in my garage where I had put it after unloading from the last art fair. This one was a 'demo' I had started at the Bayou City Art Fest in October... Well, now it's good for "day 28"!

My booth
There it is, way over on the left...

Thankful Turkeys - day 23

"Thankful Turkeys" (pastel, 16x12 inches) $500 unframed for a limited time. Click to buy

Day 23 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November.

Happy Thanksgiving from the turkeys who got away!

I'm thankful for lots of things, but right now I'm thankful for finding the few good photos of these wild turkeys hidden in the depths of my files, and I'm thankful for finding an old, slightly stained but still smooth 12x16 inch piece of gatorboard when I thought I was all out, and I'm especially thankful to all of you who have been enjoying my 23-of-30-paintings this month and more to come!

Here are some progress shots, including the photos!

I combined birds from the two photos above to create the composition below.

Then I enhanced the image, and decided it looked better flipped.

Here are the first layers of gold colored primer on the old, stained board I found.
I'm also thankful that the design allowed for the dark area to cover up the black stain!
