A huge thank you to show judge Lorenzo Chavez!

Daddy's Girl (and the Large Project Workshop)
"Daddy's Girl" (pastel, 36x36 inches) $5180
So here's what I've been working on since I got back from the summer workshop trip. My son is composing a short video of the ENTIRE process of this painting, literally from start to finish, including the photo shoot of my friend's longhorns, how I combined photos to make the composition, and the complete painting process, all with voice-over description!
But I just couldn't wait to post this new piece!! So instead of the video (which is still in the works) here's a peek at a few of the still shots from the process. Stay tuned to my social media channels (YouTube, Facebook, etc) in the next week or so for the finished video.
UPDATE: Here's the video!
And some still shots:
The two photos I ended up using...

A start on the underpainting:

One of my last little leftover paintings from my summer workshops. This mama, some kind of horned Hereford mix, was one of my triple-demo from Gastonia NC in July.
I'm focusing now on my next workshop, in Ulysses, KS, Sept 13-15, which will be all about working LARGE! You can learn more about composing a "WOW" of a showstopper with careful planning and an eye on the design... Click the flyer below for more details, and contact Tracy at mainarterykansas@gmail.com to register!

One of my triple-demo from my workshop in VA last month. I just love the medium-brown cows; they have such great options for shadow and highlight colors!
Here are a couple of progress shots:
I'm currently working on a new LARGE painting, to advertise my Large Project Workshop in KS next month. Here's a sneak peek at the under-painting... I'll be starting on the pastel today!

Road Trip 101
"Road Trip 101" (pastel, 7x10 inches) click here to bid or buy
Since I'm into some landscape posts, here's the last one from my recent summer workshop road trip (done from a photo of Hwy 101; unfortunately California wasn't on my schedule this year.) This was my landscape demo from Gastonia NC last month. A student let me try her watercolor pad, which I spread my Golden fine pumice gel and Quinacridone nickel azo gold color onto. It worked out pretty well. Has a slightly different texture to the paper; not as rough as cold-pressed.

Park Trail #45
"Park Trail #45" (pastel, 8x6 inches) sold
Here's my landscape demo from my recent workshop at Painted Views Ranch in Florence TX. This was a slight variation on my usual underpainting technique; this time I used pastel washed in with rubbing alcohol. A method I learned from Terri Ford.

Finally getting around to posting my last few straggling demos from my summer workshop trip. This was my landscape demo for the VECCA in Woodstock VA. I didn't catch progress shots, but here's a pic of us all in the workshop, the students showing off their work!

Guppy
"Guppy" (pastel, 6x6 inches) sold
This young Pygmy goat was one of my triple-demo from the last workshop of my summer trip, at Painted Views Ranch in Florence TX. I'm home now and catching up on all the tediousness of ordinary life... At least I have a few more little paintings from the trip to post this week, and won't need to get back in the studio until the weekend.
Here are my students from Florence enjoying the workshop!
If you think you or anyone you know would enjoy one of my workshops, pass this along, and take a look at my schedule on my website here!
