This fellow was on of many bison we were able to get 'up close and personal' with at Yellowstone National Park last summer. They literally have the run of the park, and treat the roads as their own.
Below is my edited reference photo with the primer underpainting. I used a combination of a darker gold primer with my usual terra cotta.
I left out the drool.
