Back on the road and back into the road sketches, at least for a short while or until I get excited about something else...

I do feel compelled to admit that these are not necessarily scenes from my current trip, but are inspired by several shots that I filtered out of my photo files before I left. I guess I'm just not a plein air kind of road-trip artist, especially for a scene at the side of a road, while trying to drive...

Below are some progress shots. I used mounted Wallis paper for this one, with a pastel underpainting washed in with denatured alcohol, as I learned from Terri Ford's workshop this spring. I enjoyed the little road landscape I did in her workshop that I underpainted with lots of reds and pinks, so I went back to that idea with this one.

Coco

Coco is the last of my pre-road-trip summer paintings. I snuck this one in after dinner the night before I left, so no progress shots. Too busy...

I'm taking my pastels along, so will try to shoot and post whatever I can accomplish while I'm gone! (Hmmm...I feel some more "Road Sketches" coming on...)

Zoe (and tomorrow's sheep) were also in the same herd as Gypsy. Lots of lovely variety from that photo shoot!

Gypsy

Gypsy was from a herd just down and across the road from Alva and Zurina, on the drive up to Breckenridge, Texas in June. Her herd was mostly white, but had several colorful mixed sheep as well. I thought this one looked exotic, like a gypsy.

Socks

I almost called this one "Socks, The Attack Pig" or "Beware of Socks." Doesn't she look dangerous? But I figured, with a name like "Socks" (and how could I name her anything else?) ya' gotta smile at her anyway, regardless of her cantankerous attitude.

Duckling Walking

This duckling, along with "Gem" the fawn, was what I painted while at the Beachcombers Art Show at the South Padre Island (TX) Convention Centre. I love this little guy's attitude in his stride, like he's got somewhere to go and he's not afraid to get there.
