"Patches" 6x4 oil cow portrait
"Patches" (oil, 6x4") sold
I have an ongoing series of miniature cow 'portraits' that began more than 2 years ago and has been so popular that I can't keep them on my 'shelf'!
I've painted more than 50 cows and throw in the occasional sheep, llama, chick, or goat just to keep things interesting.
Until now, this series has been in pastel. This is my first miniature cow portrait in oil.

The look on her face can be interpreted many ways. And I like how you don't notice the gun at first.
You can find this piece at The Gallery at Round Top, in Round Top, TX

"Merilda Braiding" this week's DPW Challenge
"Merilda Braiding" (pastel, 10x8 inches)
I've been finishing up several unfinished works lately, and realized that this one, when done, had an almost ideal split-complimentary color scheme (well, except for the skin and hair) --so I've entered it in the Daily Paintworks weekly painting challenge!
And speaking of Daily Paintworks -- I'm extremely excited and proud to announce that I am one of their newest invited members (yay!) and will be continuing to strive toward painting (or at least posting!) every day, and continuing to improve my work so that I can be worthy of the honor!

"Berries for Breakfast" 6x6 oil
"Berries for Breakfast" (oil, 6x6 inches) sold
I don't know why, but I've always had a fascination with the blackbirds and grackles that hang out in parking lots looking for crumbs and handouts. I also love seeing them massed in the tops of the trees on a cold winter morning. There's something elegant in a being that has remained unchanged since Egyptian days.
This one's my favorite so far - I think I'm getting the hang of this oil paint!

"Sunbathers" 6x6 oil
"Sunbathers" 6x6 oil sold
This was an exercise for me to see if I could paint these brown gulls with no burnt umber. I used 2 reds, 2 blues, yellow and white. I'm liking this oil paint!

"Sunny" golden cow portrait
This is "Sunny" (pastel 7x5) sold
I always come back to the portrait, even with the non-human subjects!
Below is yet another version of "Beach Date." (pastel, 8x8) This one may be my donation to a silent auction at the IAPS convention in June.

Latest Renaissance Portrait in Progress
Here's my latest in my 8x6 Renaissance portrait series, as yet untitled (any ideas?)
She is about 3/4 finished. I had to put her on hold lately for a multitude of other priorities (like taxes!)
I might send her when finished to the IAPS international pastel exhibit, as my painting for the jurors' wall!

"Koi #9"

"Koi #8" was preview for "Koi #10"
I'd been mentioning this little painting "Koi #8" (pastel, 5x5) from last fall, which was my inspiration for the larger "Koi #10" (see here) and decided to post it, though it sold long ago. This was one of those images that kept sticking in my memory, so that I really enjoyed having another go at it! (I usually can't stand painting the same composition more than once!)
