"Berries for Breakfast" 6x6 oil

"Berries for Breakfast" (oil, 6x6 inches)  sold
I don't know why, but I've always had a fascination with the blackbirds and grackles that hang out in parking lots looking for crumbs and handouts. I also love seeing them massed in the tops of the trees on a cold winter morning. There's something elegant in a being that has remained unchanged since Egyptian days.

This one's my favorite so far - I think I'm getting the hang of this oil paint!

  4. Hi Rita,

I also love "black" birds. There is something primal about them, and somewhat melancholy like in an Edgar Allen Poe story...fascinating is right. Thanks for painting him. I also love your koi, having had 2 ponds at one time with butterfly and traditional koi.

  5. I love grackles, too. I'm sure I would feel differently if I lived in the city. We only have a few and they are beautiful, especially the males.
