Day 10 of my 31-in-31 posts for January 2020!

I painted this one today (finally) while working the Carriage House Gallery. When I finished, I realized how short and mussed he is. I believe he may have been recovering from an injury (I took the reference photo at a small zoo for rescued animals.) When I took the photo I hadn't noticed. I was attracted by the light and the intelligent look in his eye.

I met this cutie at a zoo in my travels, and she amused herself and the guests by laughing along with us. She had rather a contagious laugh!

Sally - day 22

Day 22 of my 30-paintings-in-30-days of November.

Sally is a Sun Conure from one of my very many zoo visits over the summer. She was greeting entrants to the bird house. I just discovered on Wikipedia that the Sun Conure is endangered, though right above Wikipedia on the Google results was a link for Sun Conure at Petco...

Hmmm, I sure hope they're only selling Conures raised in captivity.

Lorikeet

"Lorikeet" (pastel, 7x5 inches)  sold

This one was done side by side with yesterday's bison demo. I underpainted both simultaneously in a little sampling of my assembly line approach, then after lunch did the pastel on both, one after the other without pause. This gives workshop students a chance to see how I really work in my own studio. I didn't have many progress shots of this lorikeet, but I have a few of the underpainting and my photo:

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great shot in my photo files, after someone asked my if I had done any parrots, and I realized I had only done one parrot painting many years ago:

So I threw this one into my latest batch. It's fun to see my changing style. I got into the zone with this one and it flowed really well!
