Queenie looks a lot like the model for one of my first white rabbit paintings, "Princess," but maybe older. So in my imagination this is she, after coming into her maturity.

Possibly the youngest of the bunch. For this pose I was thinking of a suitably round and fluffy name like Powder Puff or Cotton Ball, but those just seemed a little TOO cute. In the end I did a search for 'name meaning small and round' and among all sorts of amazingly diverse web listings was a page about bread. Scanning down the varieties of small, round breads, I came to the perfect name for this one!

(Of course, it's short for "Bun Bun", but she prefers being called by her first name. Or, if she doesn't like you, it's "Miss Bun".)

Buster

I almost called this one "Radar" because he looks like he's on alert and sending out ear-signals, but I thought after all that he just looks like a "Buster"

("I didn't do it! It wasn't me!") ...Busted?

Easter Vacation

I had to call this one something to do with Easter because as I was painting it, I discovered all the colors commonly associated with the Western commercial Easter: pink, yellow, violet, baby blue, spring green, and I knew I had an "Easter Bunny" painting. But I didn't want to call it "Easter Bunny" because a part of me (which is still of a strong Christian faith) knows that Easter is not about bunnies.

But still, the capitalist in me understands the appeal of the popular associative colors.
So I looked at the pose and the expression. Could this be the Easter Bunny? I think it could, but it has such an attitude that says 'I'm relaxed here and taking a break from all the hassle and what are you doing interrupting me?"

So, since Easter was just a few weeks ago, I've decide this could be the Easter Bunny on Vacation, resting out on the edge of a mulched garden and some tall daffodils (not shown).

Gumshu

Another adorable young animal from the petting zoo at the Pflugerville Deutschen Pfest. This one was yearning upwards towards the feed in one adult's hand.

I was struggling over the name of this one. I've not painted many goats, but have used up a lot of names on 200+ cows. I wanted something that started with the 'g' sound of 'goat', and suddenly "Gum-shoe" popped into my head (out of nowhere!) But since my daughter does a lot of Japanese Manga-style artwork, my natural inclination was to adjust the spelling...

I just love the light on this golden bunny. I don't have any progression photos; my schedule was tight today and I had to get right into the 'zone' and stay there. But you can see the underpainting for this one and the others from this week on "Floppy"s post. (and scroll down)
