Road Sketch 6

"Road Sketch 6" ( 3.5 x 5.5 in., watercolor)

There are roads in south Texas that fan out from the gulf coast; they're long, straight and (mostly) empty, now that IH35 is a more convenient route to the coast for most travelers. I prefer these lonely roads. In the morning there's a glow in the sky and a shimmer of 'road haze' on the horizon that's mesmerizing! I've always wanted to paint that. I think I captured it pretty well here.

  1. Rita, even though these road sketches a departure from your usual subject matter (and material), I am really enjoying them! I love any painting with roads in it, and the watercolor/ink is clearly a good media for them.

Looks like you've been a watercolorist for decades :).

  2. Thanks Sonya! I have been reasonably comfortable with w/c, using it now and then for various purposes - usually underpaintings. So I have built up a knowledge of how to handle it. I'm learning a lot more with these little paintings!
