"Nibbling Sibling" (In Progress) (pastel, 22x28 inches)
Today I had a demo at the Victoria Art League in Victoria, TX. I decided to take my current large cow painting-in-progress, which already has a title, "Nibbling Sibling", featuring the same two Herefords from the popular "Brotherly Love" which sold last year.
In Victoria today I took the painting from this point and added a bit more to it. Here are some shots from the demo:
I normally work more throughout the painting, bringing up the layers gradually all over, but I wanted to at least show how I get to a 'finish' in some part of the painting, because with one this size, the entire thing is a very slow process. So I finished the muzzle and worked my way up the right side of the older sibling.
Next weekend is the workshop at the Victoria Art League, and there are only 3 spaces open! "Pastel in Miniature", Saturday and Sunday, January 18 & 19. This workshop is great for beginner to advanced!

Cammie

I almost called "Fleur With Another Itch" but my good sense won out and I decided to go with the white flower theme. Cammie is short for Camelia.
Here are a few progress shots:

Fleur

Fleur was another dappled white challenge. When I pumped up the colors on the photo, I really did see all those teals and violets! When she started to get a little bit overworked, I had to just stop.
But I do like her whiteness against the dark background.

Maisie
"Maisie" (pastel, 6x6 inches) click here to bid
Busy day today. After several errands, I found myself in my studio cutting and priming boards and generally cleaning up a bit, then I remembered I had no more paintings to post! So I picked up Maisie's primed board, turned on the iPad and Pandera, and got to work. ...Without going back to the house for the camera.
So no progress shots today, but I sure did get a lot of boards cut and primed for the workshop in Victoria next weekend. (Still about 4 spaces available btw, likely to fill up on Sunday when I'll be giving a demo at the Victoria Art League at 2pm.)
In lieu of progress shots, here's Mazie's photo:

Monterey

Here's another of the beautiful longhorn calves I mentioned. This one, truly, I had a hard time doing justice to. She is probably THE most beautiful cow I've ever seen. Maybe I'll post a photo.
Here are some progress shots of the painting:
Thanks for watching! Here are a couple photos.
Here's the shot I used. Isn't she a beauty?
Here she is with the little 'cousins.' Adorable! I have some good shots that I'll be working into a large triple portrait.

Corabelle wins cover of 2cd Cow Volume!
"Corabelle" (pastel, 7x5 inches) sold
Great news!! My "Cows Etc. - 100 Miniature Portraits - Volume 2" is finished and ready for purchase at CreateSpace.com.
It was difficult to choose an image for the cover. After narrowing it down to about 5 'favorites', Corabelle won by virtue of her expression and vibrant color.
"But," you say, "all your cows have expression and vibrant color!"
"Well, yes." says I, "But Corabelle just kind of spoke to me... Plus, she looks so good in orange."
Let's not forget about the first "Cows Etc." released in 2011, which now boasts a "Vol. 1" on the cover!
"Volume 1" is still available at www.createspace.com/3718769
The new "Volume 2" is available at www.createspace.com/4507410
(Or by clicking the book images in the right-hand column on my blog!)
Thanks for shopping! And please share!
