So I'm traveling north this month for an art festival (Red Wing Fall Arts Festival) and then a workshop in Minneapolis, and while traveling I thought it might be cool to post a drawing-a-day!
This is a difficult habit to start! I missed yesterday (posted some caricatures from last weekend instead) so today I paused in my morning walk to do this little sketch.

Tulip Garden - won some pastels!

The Pastel Society of Southeast Texas has been having a themed painting challenge each month, and last month the subject was Flowers/Gardens. I'm thrilled to say that this won an Honorable Mention in the challenge (and $50 to Dakota Pastels! Whoo hoo!!)

Landscape is not my main thing, and frequently when I do one I'm either taking another artist's workshop or trying to channel another artist's style. For this one, I was inspired by the landscapes of Gustav Kimpt and a cloudy-day photo I took at the Dallas Arboretum which reminded me of Klimpt's landscapes. I painted this on MingART Premium sanded pastel paper, dark gray.

Time is doing that magic passing-in-a-blink thing again.

A friend of mine is doing another 30-Paintings-in-30-Days for September. I was seriously considering joining along but then suddenly it's 7:21pm on September 1st and I have a van to load in the morning to go do caricatures at the WestFest and I would have needed three more paintings done for the weekend's posts and I haven't yet finished my September E-News and wanted another Art Journal post to fit in there ... so no more painting for me tonight!

I will, however, have some prepped underpaintings with me in West this weekend to pastel on in the slow times, so I'll have a few new posts ready for next week.

And I did just finish that Art Journal post (on scanning pastels for good print image files; Read it Here!)
