Another majestic bison from a family vacation to Yellowstone National Park when the kids were young. I've managed to get a few other bison pics here and there in other places, but none can compare to the bison up there. Something about the knowing that they really do "own" the land that gives them an air of attitude and magnificent health that's hard to find elsewhere!

The Leroy family name originated from the descendants of Norse Vikings, from le roy, meaning "the king." I thought it an appropriate name for this Bison.

Here's a short video showing how the Ultramarine blue fluid acrylic color mixed with the Golden brand fine pumice gel makes a really nice dark value on the terra cotta.

 (I decided to position the body off the picture to focus more on that amazing eye!)

Intent - New Award!

I'm very happy to say that my little portrait of Mewler won Second In Show at the Austin Pastel Society 2020 Annual Juried Member Exhibition 'Celebrating Pastels!'

This was one of my little daily paintings from my 31-in-31 challenge in January. I usually put out some better work after having painted for several days. I just have to remember that right now when I have several days ahead of me and somehow I'm STILL allowing myself to get distracted by other things...

..But I'm preparing! Stay tuned for new art!

Meanwhile, although we had made the decision to cancel the APS Celebrating Pastels! reception, the show is still hanging at the Austin Art and Frame Gallery on Bee Caves Rd in Austin, and also Online HERE!

Sometimes I think I'd like to do a whole series of center-placed eye balls; there's something a little bit hypnotic about it.

Cottony

Last painting to post for a few days, until my workshop in Paso Robles begins on Thursday and I can get some demos done!
Tomorrow (Tuesday) morning I get to take a flight out of Austin at 5:55am. That means I get to wake up at 3:15. ..Oh, joy.

Whiteface

And here it is, my last painting from Angie Brown's "Fast and Loose" oil workshop, and by George, I think I got it! 30 minutes before the end of the workshop last Sunday and I said to myself, "I don't care, what have I got to loose, I'm gonna' paint fast and loose!" So I picked a SIMPLE image (That's the real trick, folks! Keep it simple!) and whipped it out.

I think I was saving this image for oil anyway. This was from the same photo shoot as my other White-faced oil portraits, Hugo and Nellie. Here's the pic and the beginning:
