Bramble Bunny

"Bramble Bunny" (pastel, 7x5 inches) $200 unframed for a limited time, or $265 framed.

This is the second painting I've done of this deep dark bunny. I decided to play up on the dramatic lighting this time. His rich jewel-tone coat reminded me of a blackberry, so I call him Bramble, after Wikipedia's description of a blackberry bush.

Here are some progress shots. I did include a bit of the blue-toned primer to help with the depth...

Strudel

This is the adorable baby pony I saw at the Georgetown 4th of July festival. Fry’s Fun Farm (yes, the supplier of the bunnies!!) also feature pony rides for the kiddos. This little one was happily trotting along with his mama as she worked her shift. He couldn’t have been more than 2 feet tall!

Blue Bunny

"Blue Bunny" (pastel, 8x6 inches) $250 unframed for a limited time, or $320 framed

Some bunnies are back!

Any resemblance of this one to the ice cream is purely coincidental. I'm just calling him what he is. Actually, he was a silvery mid-value gray... but I got excited by the blue and decided to add it to my underpainting! Wow, what fun!

The first layers are gold colored. This is Golden brand Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold fluid acrylic color mixed into Golden Fine Pumice Gel at about a 1/4 (color/gel) ratio. The gel is clear, so the color mixture is semi-transparent, and gets darker on each application.

The next layer of primer is the Art Spectrum (brand) Pastel Primer in the terra cotta color. I lay it into the darkest areas, then scrub and dry-brush (or water it down) it into the medium values of the gold to continue the value scale and add more depth to the monochromatic underpainting. (Notice I left some areas for my blue experiment!)

The blue was Golden brand Fluid Acrylic color, ultramarine, added strongly to the Golden Fine Pumice gel. So it had some transparency which worked for my purposes...

Sisters (and new Workshop!)

I'm finally getting to more paintings! I had this one under-painted months ago, so I pasteled it today. I also got almost done with a huge new batch of little underpaintings. (Stay tuned for a peek in a day or two!)

I've been out of the studio the last little while; I've been busy getting several more workshops onto my calendar, especially this one in Gastonia, North Carolina! (Click the flyer below for a closer look.) Prompted by the overwhelming response to a (non-advertised) workshop hosted by a friend in Greensboro, an associate of hers in the Charlotte area volunteered to put together another workshop to catch the overflow! It still has a few spaces left, but don't wait on this one, it's coming up fast!
